Art Journal: Owls & Mushroom Dark Forest

In the past couple of weeks, I got so into watching Art Journaling videos on YouTube and learning what materials to use and how to go about it. I also used Pinterest for inpiration. I didn’t know what to do with all colourful craft paper I had, and it was my way to get back into drawing because I love sketching and being creative. Yet, the idea to make beautiful creative pages with scrapbook paper, Acrylics, stamps, etc was amazing to me. I never did it, and I was about to attempt it. After some trial and error in another journal book, I bought a proper Mixed Media journaling book: Strathmore 5.5″x8.5″.

All the materials I purchased from Michaels, Staples and Curry’s Artists’ Material.

A few months ago, I made a crochet plushy toy owl that is on my work desk, and the past week, I decided to sketch it out.

Step 1

I used the first page of my Art Journal, and painted Gesso to prep the page for my Acrylic black and green colours.

Step 2

I picked a few scrapbook papers, traced the images based on my sketch drawing, and cut them out.

Step 3

I used dark green coloured pencils to add faded grass to the background. I also added a few dots to the background coloured white and gold with my gel pens.

Step 4

I used Distress Ink Vintage Photo with a makeup sponge on the edges of all my images to give it that cool effect.

Step 5

I used Matte Medium to glue down the scrapbook colourful papers to make the shape for the owls and mushroom.

Step 6

I added dots for the eyes and mushroom with more scrapbook paper, and I used my gel pens to add features to the owls and mushrooms.

Step 7

Used letters and white stamp to add my sentimental message. I installed “Quote of the Day – Inspirational Daily Quotes” app on my iPhone and favourited some quotes.

Final Page! Very cool! I wonder what to do next!
